The Portuguese Maria de Lima is part of the group of 14 actors chosen among the 600 who auditioned for THROATS, also being part of the seven protagonists to join the cast of this play, signed by the controversial playwright and director Gerald Thomas.
“THROATS” premieres on February 18 at the Pleasance Theatre in London, and will be on stage until March 28.
According to the Brazilian newspapers “Globo” and “A Folha de S. Paulo”, “the choice of actors was laborious. Thomas heard about 600 people. He stayed with a group of 40 for a week of intense exercise. He made them repeat dozens of times excerpts from a text that mixed Kurt Cobain, Calderón de La Barcia, Franz Kafka, Mick Jagger and Pilatos.»
It was in this workshop week that the 14 actors were chosen, among 13 British, a French and the Portuguese actress, so that after a preliminary period of rehearsals the final cast was finally chosen, all of them English with the exception of the Portuguese Maria de Lima.
The same sources report, in an interview with Gerald Thomas:
“Among the good ones are Kevin Golding and Angus Brown, both British, and Maria de Lima, a Portuguese who has been doing theater for 20 years and has lived in London for 12. She has a strong face and eyes that don’t stop and that seem to speak more than her mouth.”
Plenty of reasons for pride for the actress who has also just participated, in London, in the feature film British Feature Film Demons and Doors.
Fleeing from the familiar and sequential narrative structure, to address darker themes such as conflicts in interpersonal relationships, “THROATS” is a sometimes black, sometimes surprising, and sometimes fun, journey to the confused, turbulent and destructive world of emotions.
Intended to provoke in the viewer a varied list of emotions, Gerald Thomas worked and exhaustively defined the emotions of the actors chosen for THROATS, capturing in them everything that is unique to them and developing texts for each of them.
Maria de Lima is excited about the new project: “It’s a fantastic bet and a great challenge in my international career!”
